Welcome to the PS EVCS 19 Chess Club & Team! Registration for our after-school Chess Club & Team is now open.

Program Vision:
PS 19 EVCS Chess Club & Team program will be led by National Chess Master & renowned coach Shawn Martinez and Pushing Pawns NYC coaches. Whether your child is a complete beginner or an advancing tournament player, our goal is for all PS 19 EVCS students to experience the joy and educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 19 EVCS Team will prepare for Local, City, State, and National Competitions.

Monday & Tuesday Chess Club & Team:
(We follow the NYC DOE school calendar: dates are subject to change.)
Fall 2024: September 16th - January 28th 2025
Spring 2025: February 3rd - June 17th 2025
Time: 2:40 pm Arrival - 4:15 pm Dismissal
During regular school dismissal, all students will meet directly in the dedicated room for the chess club. Students should pack a light snack/beverage, time will be provided for students before the club begins. Chess club pickup is at 4:15 pm.

Class Grouping Options:

Kings & Queens Group: intermediate & advanced coaching with a focus on developing players for chess team competitions. Great for intermediate & advanced players.

Rooks Group: introductory coaching & social play with a focus on competition. Great for beginner & novice level players.
Our program emphasizes participation, engagement, and self-study. These groups will meet on both Mondays and Tuesdays. It will help us place students in the best learning and playing environment. Players will be promoted throughout the season based on progress, as determined by our coaches.
Program Rates:
